Nació en Valparaíso, realizó sus estudios en el Liceo de Hombres de Chillán y el Instituto Barros Arana de Santiago. Posteriormente ingresó a la Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad Católica, recibiendo el título de Ingeniero Agrónomo en 1948.

Se desempeñó como Ingeniero Ayudante del Departamento de Bosques de la Sociedad Agrícola y Forestal “Colcura” de Lota Alto.
En febrero de 1955 ingresó al Plan Chillán, al Proyecto de Extensión Agrícola, como relacionador de la oficina de Yumbel.
Se radicó en Chillán y tuvo a su cargo la organización de los Comités de Agricultores de Cato y Coihueco.
Continuó desempeñando el cargo de Agrónomo Extensionista del Proyecto de Extensión Agrícola.
